The Hutchinson YMCA Swim Club is in full gear for the 2016 seasons. The HYCSC team swims all year-round and technically have 2 “seasons." The Long Course portion of the year is swam in 50 meter pools, while the Short Course consists of 25 yard pools. The Short Course, which just finished, runs from about Sept until February/March. Long Course runs from April until July/August.
"This is an amazing sport that anyone can excel in with determination and hard work," said Deanna Krohlow, YMCA Aquatics Director.
The HYSC members travel to meets all over Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma! They call themselves the Seahawks and generally have approximately 35 members throughout the year. Seahawk athletes compete at meets to make qualifying times for the District meets and Championship meets. Swimmers also qualify for championship and beyond, which can include the Olympics, during the district meet
"One of the great things about swim team is that it helps to condition the athletes bodies in ways other sports can’t and it completely enhances their capabilities as athletes in other sports," Krohlow added. "All of our swimmers participate in other sports during the year because we have so much flexibility in our sport and seasons. Participants don’t have to go to every meet to be a part of a great team. We also have every level of swimmer on the team."
