HUTCHINSON (McQUEEN #2) - For the first time in HutchRec Civitan Club Machine Pitch league play, the White Sox gave the mighty McPherson Bullpups a challenge falling 6-4.
"I was amazed with the fight these White Sox had tonight in their first loss,” said Head Coach Troy Adkins.
McPherson started off with a 3 run top of the first inning. The White Sox got started in the bottom half with a Brady Ollenburger single. Ollenburger leads the Sox with his 10 singles and batting .846 for the season. After a Kellen O’Sullivan single advanced Ollenburger to second, Ty Adkins brought him home with a RBI double.
The Bullpups added on in the top of the second, but the Sox fought back in the bottom half. Catcher Owen Daniels collected a double, and was brought home on a Blaine Mendenhall double. Right fielder Leyton Reneau scored Mendenhall on a double of his own to tie the game. Julen Wannamaker singled to score Reneau to tie the game 4-4.
As both teams were held scoreless in the third, McPherson broke the tie with two more in the top half of the fourth.
The White Sox had three make it in on bases but failed to get any home. The game was called due to time after 4 innings.
Adkins added, “They fought hard last night in their first loss of the season. As coaches, we all agreed it was a victory for us considering the Bullpups were averaging 16 runs a game before they met us.”
