February was a busy month for local martial artist Haley "The Haymaker" Stucky.
On February 6, she traveled to El Dorado to compete in the Kent Clayborn Brotherhood Tournament. Haley, 6-years old, placed 1st in Individual Kata & Kumite (fighting) competitions for her age group.
"The Haymaker" then traveled to Arlington, TX to compete in the 25th Annual Lone Star Judo Classic Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016. Haley was among over 300 competitors coming from 7 states, as well as Mexico, and was the only girl representing the state of Kansas. Haley earned 2nd place in the 5-6 year old girls division. Haley’s team, Kester Judo, earned the trophy for the largest out-of-state team.
Next, she competed in the 27th Annual Mickey Gomez Karate Tournament on February 27, which was held at the National Guard Armory in Wichita. Haley earned 4th place in her age division in the obstacle course, 1st place in Musical Kata, 1st place in Individual Kata, and 1st place in Kumite (fighting).
Haley earned her Purple belt in December 2015 from the Hutchinson School of Karate, where she studies under Master Sam Price. Haley also has been studying Judo at Kester Judo in Wichita since October 2015. Haley just earned her Yellow belt in Judo. She has also been competing in Karate for a year and a half. Haley is the daughter of Jess & Jessica Stucky, of Pretty Prairie, and is in Mrs. Wilder’s Kindergarten class at Pretty Prairie Grade School.
