HUTCHINSON (McQUEEN #2) – The White Sox’s bats warmed up from the rough outing and finish strong against the Dodgers, 14-3, on July 16, 2013.
"Tonight our bats were hot from the first inning to the last, and when bats are hot, runs are scored," said Head Coach Troy Adkins.
The Dodgers came to play, using some great base running to get on the board first with a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
Tayton Morales started off the bottom half with a double. Second baseman Brady Ollenburger scored Morales on a single. Cooper Dube followed with a single of his own to advance Ollenburger to third. Ty Adkins nailed a shot into the outfield gap, scoring Ollenburger and Dube and stopping at third. Adkins scored next on a Julen Wannamaker single to make it 4-1. After a Kellen O’Sullivan single, The Dodgers retired the White Sox to end the inning.
The White Sox locked down the Dodgers in the top of the second.
Right fielder Leyton Reneau led off the second with a single. Next, Blaine Mendenhall hit a chopper that split the defenders to score Reneau from first and give himself a stand up RBI triple. Morales made it 6-1 with a RBI double. The Dodgers ended the inning with a caught fly ball.
Owen Daniels provided a heads up play from catcher with a run saving force out to first to keep the Dodgers off the board in the third.
Wannamaker led off another single, then was advanced to scoring position on a Clark Denison groundout. O’Sullivan brought Wannamaker home with a double. Daniels scored O’Sullivan with a double of his own. Reneau hit another double, scoring Daniels to make the score 8-1. Aiden Fountain singled, but the Dodgers got Mendenhall at first to end the threat.
Determined to climb back into the game, the Dodgers recorded two quick runs to bring the score to 8-3, but after a coaching adjustment, Ty Adkins made a throw out to first and two unassisted outs to end the rally.
In the bottom frame, Morales singled and then scored from first when Ollenburger hit a single of his own. Dube doubled to score Ollenburger . Adkins singled advancing Dube to third, Wannamaker singled to third base, holding Dube and loading the bases for Denison. Denison responded with a hit in front of the plate allowing Dube to score before the Dodgers catcher could touch home. Daniels and Reneau each reached first on RBI singles to end the game, 14-3.
"I am so proud of these kids and how they gelled together as a team," added Coach Adkins. "I didn’t rate this season by wins and losses, I rated this season by how much each kid grew with confidence every week."
