Matthew Crossman has always loved to play basketball, but has never wanted to play in front of a crowd. He can be pretty shy, but his father and I signed him up for the Hutchinson Recreation league and told him he had to play. We knew he'd love it once he started to play. Matthew, who attends South Hutchinson Elementary, started out the season very shy and unsure of what he was supposed to do. All he knew was he loved playing basketball and he was outside everyday shooting and dribbling. He loves playing knock out with his brother and sister, and every now and the mom and dad get to join in. Matthew knew his way around the driveway and playground, but the basketball court was a little different and, in someways, intimidating. After a few games in the HRC 5th/6th league, he became more comfortable as he learned how to really play the game. This was something different than what he was use to on the playground. Matthew practiced hard and went to as many games as he could and watched as much as he could possible on T.V. With the help of his parents, his Wolverine coach and teammates, he has become an unstoppable force on the court. With his long arms and height he has become the lead rebounder and one of the lead scoring members on the team. His father and I couldn't be more proud of him, especially when the other parents come up to us and say that he's going to be a superstar someday. Matthew is starting to come into his own and is a joy for his father and to watch on the court. Submitted by Audra Crossman |
