HUTCHINSON (McQUEEN #3) – On a hot night, and bats going cold, pitcher Tayten Morales sparked the White Sox to a 3-2 victory over the Giants, on July 9, 2013.
“Tayten Morales decided to take the game into his own hands tonight and sparked the team with a 2 RBI inside the park homerun, which was the difference in the game," explained Head Coach Troy Adkins.
The Giants came to play as the usual hot hitting White Sox were held to a season low 10 hits.
Outfielder Julen Wannamaker led off with a single to start the contest. Brady Ollenburger followed with a single of his own. Wannamaker was brought home on an Owen Daniels groundout to first for the games first run. The White Sox defense would hold off a scoring threat in the bottom half of the inning.
The Giants defense held strong in the top of the second while adding a run of their own in the bottom half of the second to tie the game 1-1.
Neither team would add any runs in the third frame.
"We just hit the ball to the defense tonight, and that does not produce runs," Adkins said.
In the top of the fourth and final inning, Morales cranked a shot down the third base line, scoring Rylan Young from first and crossing the plate himself for the White Sox first homerun of the season.
Adkins added, "Overall I am so proud of every kid on this team, to watch how much they have improved over the season is amazing."
